Housecleaning Tips

Don't let your hidden messes surprise you when you have guests arriving or your mother-in-law comes for a visit. Instead pay special attention to these three areas that even experts often miss - glassware, cooktop coils and the clothes dryer. Prevent spots on glassware from ruining your evening or distracting your guests by removing spots and preventing them from coming back again. Make certain the water is hot, according to Orlando cleaning companies. If washing dishes by hand, you need to have the water as hot as you can stand it without burning your hands. Or use the highest heat cycle on your dishwasher. Cut back on the soap when trying to remove spots from glasses.  One reason that glasses and dishes get spotty is because overusing soap leads to a filmy or cloudy appearance to the glassware when it doesn't get rinsed clean. Rinse thoroughly with clean, hot water. When you rinse, the water should start hot and you should do a visual check to make sure that all the soap is removed before you dry the glassware. Once the glassware is clean and stains removed, use a clean, soft towel to dry the glasses inside and out. The coil burners on your stove are another area that can make your kitchen look less than clean.  Burners can become a mess of grease and burnt foods if not cleaned regularly. To prevent the smell of burning every time you turn on the cooktop, you should maintain the coil burners. Most coil burners should be easy to remove from the cooktop with a small tug where they plug into the main stove. If you aren't sure how to remove the burners, don't risk breaking anything. Instead read your appliance manual to determine how to safely remove the coil burners. Wash with soap and water. Use a small amount of dishwashing liquid and place it on a sponge. Hold the burner under a light flow of water and wipe with the soapy sponge. You might need a little elbow grease to remove any stuck-on food. Do not soak or submerge the burners in water. Remember that the plugs are electrical and could be damaged if immersed in water. If the food is stuck on and cannot be removed with just the soap and water, sprinkle some baking soda onto your sponge. The baking soda is mildly abrasive and should help you scrub. It has the added bonus of helping remove any odors that might be clinging to your burners. You may not realize that your clothes dryer requires regular cleaning and maintenance. Most people believe that they just need to clean the lint trap and the dryer will run fine for years. This might be true but your dryer will become less efficient and more hazardous the longer you go without cleaning it thoroughly. You should inspect and clean the exhaust duct on the rear of the dryer.
